Our founder and owner, Lauren grew up in a small surf town in Southern California where she spent her days at the beach and in the ocean. Her heart’s passion for the spirit of coastal culture led her on a journey to open up Surf + Sand— a conscientious curation of sustainably made goods for personal style and home. After 16+ years of working for start-ups in the advertising, tech, and non-profit sectors, she decided to take the ultimate leap and followed her dream to start her own business.


The original Sweetwater opened in 1972, in a rustic, downtown Mill Valley storefront previously occupied by a local watering hole called the Office. On its opening night, the Sweetwater presented an acoustic folk‐rock group that played for a crowd that lined up halfway down the block to get in. While the Sweetwater enjoyed a most auspicious beginning, it wasn’t until a decade later that the tiny 90-seat tavern with a stage earned its rightful place in music history. At the Sweetwater Music Hall, that history continues on today.


The Depot Café and Bookstore located on the Plaza is the heart of Mill Valley where locals come to meet family and friends, and visitors are always welcome! Waldscraft Bakery began as a pandemic project in Stacey Waldspurger’s home kitchen. Fast forward, we are now open in the heart of Mill Valley California at 31 Sunnyside Ave. Powered by a wildly supportive community, Waldscraft outgrew the family kitchen and is located in a more suitable home at 31 Sunnyside Ave, Mill Valley CA. You can also find us weekly at the Marin Civic Center Farmer’s Market from 8-1 on Sundays, and popping up around Mill Valley on occasion.
